Dario Argento ha ridisegnato i confini dell’horror cinematografico attraverso un linguaggio innovativo e delirante. Pellicole come Profondo rosso, Suspiria, Inferno, Tenebre e Phenomena sono ancora oggi dei grandi classici innovativi. A partire dall’acclamato Profondo rosso” il nome di Argento venne inevitabilmente associato a quello dei Goblin, leggendario gruppo che seppe creare un connubio indissolubile con la sua arte. Non è esagerato dire che senza la musica dei Goblin questi film avrebbero perso molto del loro impatto. In ogni caso Argento è sempre stato un grande appassionato di musica (di tutti i generi, dal rock alla sperimentazione) e risulta quindi quantomai azzeccato e calzante questo tributo alla sua figura da parte dell’etichetta discografica Eighth Tower che viene curato da Raffaele Pezzella. Per l’occasione sono stati radunati alcuni artisti della scena elettronica e sperimentale provenienti da diversi paesi come Michael Bonaventure, Grey Frequency, Rapoon, Joel Gilardini, 400 Lonely Things, David Strother & Carl Royce, Gianluca Becuzzi, Kloob, Mario Lino Stancati, Arrighi-Bocci-Fontana-Lepore e il progetto Pluhm. Le ambientazioni e le sonorità, anche se proposte da artisti di nicchia e del giro della musica elettronica, riescono però ad essere minacciose e ad evocare le immagini oniriche del maestro. La prima traccia di Michael Bonaventure è una rivisitazione dark-ambient del celeberrimo tema di Profondo Rosso. Grey Frequency in “Tanz Akademie” evoca tonalità oscure. Anche Joel Gilardini riesce ad essere inquietante con le sue plumbee atmosfere alla Lustmord mentre 400 Lonely Things si muove su sonorità glitch. Pluhm in “Paura degli specchi” è astratto ed enigmatico. Mario Lino Stancati si muove invece verso suoni che ricordano i mitici Goblin. Kloob in “Murder Designer” riesce poi realmente a creare una musica da incubo. Sinceramente mai avrei associato un artista come Rapoon ad Argento eppure l’esperimento sembra funzionare così come funziona “Red Is The Colour” di Gianluca Becuzzi con le sue atmosfere cupe e oppressive. Al cd viene inoltre allegato un libro contenente alcune storie ispirate. a film cult horror e di fantascienza (Dario Argento, John Carpenter, Sam Raimi, David Cronenberg, Lucio Fulci e altri..). Dario Argento has redrawn the boundaries of cinematic horror through an innovative and delirious language. Films such as Deep Red, Suspiria, Inferno, Tenebre and Phenomena are still great innovative classics today. Starting from the acclaimed Deep Red, Argento’s name was inevitably associated with that of the Goblins, a legendary group that knew how to create an indissoluble union with his art. It is no exaggeration to say that without the Goblins’ music these films would have lost much of their impact. In any case Argento has always been a great lover of music (of all genres, from rock to experimentation) and therefore this tribute to his figure by the Eighth Tower record label, curated by Raffaele Pezzella, is perfectly timed and fitting. For the occasion, some artists of the electronic and experimental scene from different countries were gathered such as Michael Bonaventure, Gray Frequency, Rapoon, Joel Gilardini, 400 Lonely Things, David Strother & Carl Royce, Gianluca Becuzzi, Kloob, Mario Lino Stancati, Arrighi -Bocci-Fontana-Lepore and Pluhm. The settings and sounds, even if proposed by niche artists and electronic music circles, however manage to be threatening and to evoke the dreamlike images of the master. The first track by Michael Bonaventure is a dark-ambient reinterpretation of the famous Profondo Rosso theme. Gray Frequency in “Tanz Akademie” evokes dark tones. Even Joel Gilardini manages to be disturbing with his leaden Lustmord-like atmospheres while 400 Lonely Things moves on glitch sounds. Pluhm in “Fear of Mirrors” is abstract and enigmatic. Mario Lino Stancati instead moves towards sounds that recall the mythical Goblins. Kloob in “Murder Designer” then actually manages to create nightmarish music. Honestly, I would never have associated an artist like Rapoon with Argento yet the experiment seems to work as well as “Red Is The Color” by Gianluca Becuzzi with its dark and oppressive atmospheres. A book containing some stories inspired to cult horror and science fiction films (Dario Argento, John Carpenter, Sam Raimi, David Cronenberg, Lucio Fulci and others..) accompanies the CD.
