Il fascino degli edifici abbandonati e in disuso ha qualcosa di inquietante, è quasi il monito della caducità della presenza dell’uomo su questo pianeta. In particolare il fascino dei monasteri riesce ad evocare un senso del sacro che fa parte della nostra natura e della nostra ansia di eternità. Durante i secoli sono molti i monasteri che sono sono stati chiusi e abbandonati. In questi edifici fatiscenti è come se allignasse ancora un frammento di Dio. Ora la Eighth Tower, nel solco di altre compilation tematiche come quelle dedicate a Dracula, a H.P. Lovecraft e ad Edgar Allan Poe, ha invitato 15 musicisti di tutto il mondo sempre dell’area sperimentale ed elettronica per comporre della musica che riesca a trasmettere artisticamente la magia di questi edifici dismessi. Il disco, intitolato Music For Abandoned Monasteries, è sempre sperimentale ma tende più, rispetto ai lavori citati, verso una sorta di misticismo. Lo stile confina sempre con il dark-ambient e la drone music ma, per l’occasione, troviamo anche molta musica per organo. Personalmente le atmosfere presenti in questo disco mi hanno ricordato i primi Popol Vuh elettronici, quelli, per intenderci, di un capolavoro come In den Gärten Pharaos e di un brano come “Vuh”. Questa è Deep Music, musica profonda che ci mette in contatto con l’animale mistico che vive dentro noi. Ci sono anche momenti più prettamente di ricerca ma, nel complesso, traspare una certa uniformità stilistica. The charm of abandoned and disused buildings has something eerie about it; it is almost a reminder of the transience of man’s presence on this planet. In particular, the charm of monasteries manages to evoke a sense of the sacred that is part of our nature and our longing for eternity. Over the centuries there are many monasteries that have been closed and abandoned. In these dilapidated buildings it is as if a fragment of God still lingers. Now the Eighth Tower, in the vein of other thematic compilations such as those dedicated to Dracula, H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe, has invited 15 musicians from around the world, again from the experimental and electronic area, to compose music that manages to artistically convey the magic of these abandoned buildings. The record, titled Music For Abandoned Monasteries, is always experimental but tends more, compared to the aforementioned works, toward a kind of mysticism. The style always borders on dark-ambient and drone music but, on this occasion, we also find a lot of organ music. Personally, the atmospheres on this record reminded me of the early electronic Popol Vuh, those, to be clear, of a masterpiece like In den Gärten Pharaos and a track like “Vuh.” This is Deep Music, deep music that puts us in touch with the mystical animal that lives inside us. There are also more purely searching moments but, overall, a certain stylistic uniformity shines through.
