Sonologyst è il progetto di musica elettronica di Raffaele Pezzella. Nel 2016 aveva pubblicato, solo in formato digitale, l’album Electrons. Ora ha deciso di ristampare quel lavoro in formato cd. Electrons in pratica è un concept basato sulla fisica quantistica. Le musiche sono state composte utilizzando sintetizzatori analogici (eccetto per il brano inedito “LHC”). Le sonorità sono estremamente minimali e cosmiche e, personalmente, mi hanno ricordato molto Time Machines dei Coil, quest’ultimo un vero e proprio trip acido che portava la mente al di là del tempo e dello spazio. E le stesse sensazioni le ho avute ascoltando Electrons. Fin dalla prima traccia “Anti-Commutators” siamo immersi in un caleidoscopio sonico avvolgente e immobile. Il “mood” del disco rimane in ogni caso molto rarefatto e metafisico. Si ha l’impressione di essere a bordo di una vecchia astronave di qualche vecchio film di fantascienza. Sicuramente non viene dimenticata la lezione dei corrieri cosmici tedeschi degli anni ‘70. Ma ciò che emerge è la qualita’ ipnotica di questi suoni che riescono realmente ad evocare l’essenza della materia dell’universo costituita dagli atomi e dalle particelle elementari come gli elettroni, i neutroni e i protoni. Un disco non facile da approcciare ma che consiglio caldamente agli amanti dell’elettronica e del dark-ambient. Sonologyst is the electronic music project of Raffaele Pezzella. In 2016 he had released, only in digital format, the album Electrons. Now he has decided to reissue that work in CD format. Electrons is basically a concept based on quantum physics. The music was composed using analog synthesizers (except for the unreleased track “LHC”). The sounds are extremely minimal and cosmic and, personally, reminded me a lot of Time Machines by Coil, the latter a real acid trip that took the mind beyond time and space. And I had the same feelings when listening to Electrons. From the very first track “Anti-Commutators” we are immersed in an enveloping and still sonic kaleidoscope. The “mood” of the record remains in any case very rarefied and metaphysical. One has the impression of being aboard an old spaceship from some old science fiction movie. Certainly the lesson of the German cosmic couriers of the 1970s is not forgotten. But what emerges is the hypnotic quality of these sounds that really manage to evoke the essence of the matter of the universe consisting of atoms and elementary particles such as electrons, neutrons and protons. Not an easy record to approach but one that I highly recommend to lovers of electronica and dark-ambient.
